Group Standards
2008
We design group standards for the Blue Wave Competitive Swim Team to provide the most efficient practice environment for each individual swimmer and for the group itself. The coaching staff will ensure that group standards are flexible enough to meet the needs of the team. The age standards are for the purpose of establishing a guide for parents and swimmers. Groups will be adjusted primarily by ability level rather than that of age.
All groups will emphasize training with an appropriate amount of stroke technique for that particular group. Coaches will work with swimmers both individually and in a group setting.
Gold Group
This group is for swimmers who can maintain a training level at a higher intensity level geared for the more experienced swimmer. This group is not intended as an introductory level group. A swimmer must be able to meet the standard of swimming 30 x 50 meters freestyle on an interval of 1 minute. **Gold Group has a minimum attendance requirement to qualify to participate in group practices. This is NOT a requirement to be on the team, rather to participate in this practice group. Any swimmer not meeting this requirement will be moved to a more appropriate ability group.
Gold Group standard tryout will be: Saturday, May 24 - 9:00a (total time 35 minutes)
Silver Group
This group is for swimmers who can maintain a higher intensity level of training than the Bronze Group. This group is not intended as an introductory level group. A swimmer must be able to meet the standard of swimming 30 x 25 meters freestyle on an interval of 40 seconds.
Silver Group standard tryout will be: Saturday, May 24 - 9:45a (total time 35 minutes)
Bronze Group
This group primarily consists of the those swimmers who have less than two years or no competitive experience. These swimmers will maintain a training level at a lower amount of training than that of the Silver Group.
Developmental Group
This group is geared for the swimming who has advanced beyond swim lessons but does not feel ready for the more experienced groups of swim team. Swimmers in this group will be considered for meet line-ups. This groups practice times will begin during the swim lesson program. Swimmers will be subject to the swim lesson program fee and the swim team fee if the swimmer opts to participate in meets.
In order to provide a fair and efficient learning environment for our swimmers the team requires that every swimmer must be able to swim a continuous 25 meter (one length) freestyle while using rotary breathing without any outside assistance. Swimmers that are not able to meet this requirement may be considered for the Developmental Group or placed in the appropriate swim lesson ability level.
** Gold Group: The maximum allowed missed practices will be 1 day for every week of training. Swimmers may take these days at any time during the season. This requirement must be met to maintain group training status only, this may not necessarily affect the swimmers eligibility to participate in swim meets. Example of total allowed misses: 6 weeks of practice allows a swimmer to miss 6 practices total at any time throughout the season. In this example a swimmer may miss 6 practices in a row if the family so desires to go on a vacation, but the swimmer would then have to maintain perfect attendance to stay in group 1 as they have taken all their allowed missed practices.
Total allowed misses for 2008: 7
